20/366: sown, grown, mown

Our first major job on the almost 1/3 acre block of land was to create a front lawn.

The ground was still looking like a building site, and the clay was really hard.

We decided to hire a guy with a backhoe to improve the soil. In the photo you can see the only tree on the entire block, a rather unattractive pittosporum.

The rotary hoeing helped break up the clods of clay and provide a nice even base for the grass seeds.

Though proud of this achievement, little did we realise that it marked the beginning of many years of toil and expense, but it is an on-going labour of love, and testament to the longevity of our marriage and teamwork.
