36/366: on watering

My favourite plants are those that need little maintenance once they’re planted. If they need watering I prefer once or twice a week with a good dousing, rather than a daily sprinkle that doesn’t encourage deeper root growth.

Sometimes I get excited and plant some annuals in a pot, but if they’re not in an area that is readily accessible, I will forget to water them and the result is not pretty.

This particular planter was near the herb garden, which I do in fact regularly water, but because it was behind one of the posts of the pergola, I overlooked it a few times, and then a little heatwave brought about this result.

Consequently, I have another planter that I can utilise in another area. Fortunately I like some variety.
