216/366: the scent of violets

Blue skies sent me out into the garden today. As I brushed past some violets their sweet scent wafted over me, making me feel that spring is just around the corner.

We are affected by the weather, no matter what we say. I remember a little poem from primary school. I am not sure who it is attributable to, but it says it in a nutshell.

Whether the weather is cold, or whether the weather is hot,                                               We’ll weather the weather, whatever the weather, whether we like it or not.

The violets make a pretty mass, but when I took one and sniffed it close up the scent became a little cloying. In  my opinion violets are best experienced as a little passing parade.

The shape of violets always remind me of butterflies, while their leaves are beautifully heart-shaped.

  1. And these little beauties, are one of our many wildflowers….growing madly and a plenty along our country trails. One of these days, I keep telling myself that I will take bag and shovel in hand for those and especially ther many varieties of ferns. Lovely pics Sandi. You would do well in our photog group.
